What to do?
Here is my question.....what do you do with all your kids' artwork? Do you keep every coloring/painting picture, craft they do at church or school, etc??? We have so much and I honestly sneak it into the trash sometimes cuz I'm not sure what to do with it. Should I feel guilty for doing that? Any experienced moms out there happy/glad that they kept every piece of art??? Where do you store it all if so? Is it okay for me to throw some of it away without asking or telling? :-) Help?!

Michelle -- Okay, so I'm really bad about this lately. I throw away a lot! and I don't ask them before I do it. But they make so much stuff between MOPS, Bible study, school and at home. If there is something they're really attached to, then I keep it. I have a bag of stuff collected now from the beginning of preschool. My plan is to go through it with Jacob this summer and let him choose 5 favorites. And then I plan to get one of those art portfolio things to store it in. I've also heard of people taking pictures of the kid's artwork and incorporating it into a scrapbook somehow.
Schells, one idea I've heard is to take a picture of a grouping of their less keepable projects. That way you/they can remember them without actually filling your closets. I honestly haven't done that yet (it all goes in the trash), but I thought it was a good idea.
Well, Max is just starting to bring home all of his art and I have a little idea...I want to put string or wire across one whole wall of his room with a certain amount of clothespins to hang the art from. When those fill up he'll have to choose one to get rid of to replace with his new one. I'm so into teaching them that it's good to sort through stuff and get rid of what you don't love.
I also throw away a lot of the artwork. I've been keeping the cuter/keepable things. I purchased two frames (one for Ellie and one for Molly), and I incorporate my favorites into a scrapbook page and then they are on display for a season. These will then go into the scrapbook. There is some artwork that is too big to go on a scrapbook page, so I hang that on their door for a while. I will only save a few of the really important things probably...handprints, those kind of things. I've found that she makes so much right now that she quickly forgets about it and it is just piled around the house. I don't think you need to feel guilty about throwing it away!

Hi Michelle! I toss a lot (when Emma isn't looking!) but keep some that seem more special. For the flat projects (papers and stuff) I'll display them in a frame for a bit, and then I have a looseleaf notebook with page protectors that I slide them into. Emma loves flipping through it to see her works of art, and it doesn't take up much space and it will be fun to see the progression when she's older. Right now it's just a plain old binder, but I have these high ambitions to "pretty it up"... we'll see about that! For the bulkier stuff, if it's really special I have a little box, but more often than not I toss it. Don't feel bad throwing stuff away. Can you imagine if we kept it all?
So what did you decide to do, Michelle? :) I meant to ask you yesterday and forgot.
I think what I decided to do is to throw away (recycle!) some of it, and the ones we keep, I'll get a binder and some clear pages and put the art in there and keep it till I feel like going thru it later and deciding what to do with it! Some of the special ones I think I'll get some cheap frames for and hang them in their rooms. Thanks for all the great ideas.
We love the clothes line idea - we've done that in the past. At the moment, we have a bulletin board in their room. It's really great for their self esteem when you display their work. But it does add up - so we usually pick special things to hang up. Then after a while, I put them in a binder and put new ones up on the bulletin board. Don't forget to date them and put names on if they didn't already!
Bulletin board...great idea! And to add the dates...great idea! I don't know why I haven't thought of these things! I'm thankful for my smart creative friends!
